AN INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF FLOW BEHAVIOR OF ALUMINUM WHEN FORGING DIFFERENT SECTIONED SPECIMENS
Experiments were carried out to generate data on cold compression of solid aluminum specimens having different cross section betweens flat dies at 2 degrees of surface condition (dry and lubricated). Different specimen geometries die surface conditions are expected to create different loading characteristics during the process. Experimental results showed that load /the displacement curves consisted of two stages. The metal first begins to overcome the frictional force at the interface in the first stage and the metal begins to flow after reaching the yield point. This stage is characterized by a steep rate of increase of load. There was a difference between forging of the dry and lubricated specimens .the load was less in the lubricated condition due to the decrease in the coefficient of friction. Ho/Do ratio affected the shape of load / displacement curves. It was concluded that different specimen geometry, the height to diameter Ho/Do ratios had led to different loading conditions. Cylindrical specimens gave the highest loads, while rectangular ones gave the smallest load. Friction condition at the specimen /die interface affected the load, shape, and mode of flow. When lubricated specimens were used, load decreased. Because the friction force decreases. The height to diameter (Ho/Do) ratio also had a noticed effect: As Ho/Do increases, load at constant displacement decreases. This may be referred to the fact that as Ho increases, the strain is decreased. Presense of bulged control was a typical for forging between flat dies.

This paper reports the results of a study for the early detection of bubble formation during the boiling process using acoustic emission. The feasibility of using AE technology to detect and monitor early bubble formation during pool boiling is assessed, and the results show that AE technology is an affective tool for this purpose. There is a clear correlation between the AE signal levels and height of the water level above the heated surface during the boiling process. The different types of heated fluid influence AE energy levels during the bubble formation process. Statistically, it was found that the best AE parameters to indicate bubble formation were AE-RMS, AE-Energy and AE-Amplitude.
عرض المصدرExperimental investigation of the influences of different liquid types on acoustic emission energy levels during the bubble formation process
Bubble formation phenomena in a two-phase gas/liquid system occur in many industries that involve boiling; such as desalination stations, nuclear reactors, chemical plants, and fluid piping transportation and processes. Bubble formation phenomena cause problems, such as a decrease in equipment efficiency, vibration, noise, and solid surface erosion. Applications of the acoustic emission (AE) technique for monitoring bubble formation and burst stages in boiling processes are marginal in terms of extension in comparison to other applications of the AE technique. The use of the AE technique in this experimental investigation covers the frequency range between 100 and 1000 kHz, showing that the AE sensor can detect acoustic emissions from an occurrence of bubble formation. Statistically, it was found that the best AE parameter indicator for bubble formation was AE-RMS (root mean square).
عرض المصدرExploration of the Possibility of Acoustic Emission Technique in Detection and Diagnosis of Bubble Formation and Collapse in Valves
The application of acoustic emission (AE) technique in detection and monitoring of bubble formation and collapse in valves are presented in this review. The generation of AE signals and the basic compositions of AE detection system are briefly explained. The applications of AE technique in valves are focused on condition monitoring and detection bubble formation (bubble cavitation), and leakage of water through valves. All results prove that the AE technique works well for detection and diagnosis of failures during valves.
عرض المصدرMonitoring of Bubble Formation during the Boiling Process Using Acoustic Emission Signals
The bubble cavitation phenomenon in two phase gas/liquid systems happens in several hydraulic components, for example, valves and centrifugal pumps. This is a common occurrence, leading to a drop in hydraulic performance, reduction of equipment efficiency, possible damage to the structure of pump and valve components. In addition, it causes high vibration and noise and solid surface erosion. This study identifies the feasibility of the use of the Acoustic Emission technology to detect and monitor bubble formation throughout boiling processes. To undertake this task a special purpose test-rig was employed. It was concluded that bubble formation is detectable with AE technology and there is a clear correlation between increasing AE levels and the bubble formation during the boiling process.
